Mary Frances Juneman was born December 18, 1913, in Dallas, Texas, the daughter of Harry Clayton Juneman & Josephine Hortense (Scruggs) Juneman. She married Benjamin Franklin Stevens on September 21, 1930. They had met at Travis Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Worth, and they eloped to Admore, Oklahoma, and were married there. They settled in Fort Worth, raised two daughters, Dana and Joan, and spent their lives in Fort Worth. At the time of the death of Benjamin, January 26, 1997, they had been married 66 years.

Benjamin owned the Stevens Dental Lab and worked as a dental technician in Fort Worth. When he retired from his work at the dental lab in 1978, he helped his wife with the Green Thumb Gardens.1

Mary F. Stevens appeared in the membership list for the 1948 Midwest Hemerocallis Society Yearbook. She was listed in The Hemerocallis Society Yearbook 1948 membership list, and then each year after that through 1963. She was listed as the Regional Supervisor for Region 6 in The Hemerocallis Society Yearbook 1953 and 1954, page 4.

Mary Frances Stevens registered 22 daylilies. The earliest was Hemerocallis 'Lady Rose' (1949). Her last registration was H. 'Reigning Beauty' (1955).

In The Hemerocallis Society Newsletter, Vol. 6, No. 2, June, 1952, Mary F. Stevens of Green Thumb Gardens is listed as an "Accredited Judge."

In The Hemerocallis Society Yearbook 1952, page 155, Mary Stevens, Texas, suggested giving a daylily to someone who has never grown one, and that a daylily in every garden would lead to an increased popularity of daylilies.

Mary F. Stevens of Fort Worth, Texas, was one of the Charter Members of the American Hemerocallis Society in 1948. She was appointed 1953-54 Regional Supervisor for Region 6.
