1999 American Hemerocallis
Society
Regional Service Award Winner
Mary & Eddie Gage
(Reprinted from the Summer
1999 Region 6 Newsletter)
Mary
and Eddie Gage join Region 6's prestigious list of Region 6 Service Award
winners. Mary and Eddie are well known for their continued service to Region 6,
especially in the area of show exhibitions and daylily programs.
Their devotion to daylilies and the American Hemerocallis Society has been almost as long as their forty-seven year marriage. They started growing daylilies in 1954. In the early years, while Mary was rearing four children, Eddie was the more prominent one in the Houston area clubs and with other daylily advocates. He served as President of the Houston Hemerocallis Society in 1976-77. Mary was later president in 1982-83. Both have chaired daylily shows and are Exhibition and Garden Judges.
Mary is an Exhibition Judges Instructor. Mary has served as the Region 6 Awards and Honors Chair and Regional Publicity Director. Most recently she was Region 6's representative to the American Hemerocallis Society Board from 1993-96. With her decision to serve only three years on the Board, we all were concerned that both Mary and Eddie would retire to enjoy their family and daylilies. Fortunately for us, Eddie agrees to most invitations for Mary's fabulous and inventive slide program.
Both Mary and Eddie are well deserving of the award.
