This first grade teacher has been an avid
gardener for over thirty years - always with a keen interest in daylilies. In
addition to being an American Hemerocallis Society Garden and Exhibition Judge,
Betty is a Rose Society Judge and Consulting Rosarian, Iris Society Judge, a
National Council Master Judge, and a charter member of the Albuquerque
Chrysanthemum Society. She has served as President of her garden club, the
Albuquerque Rose Society, and the New Mexico Iris Society. She was the 1975 New
Mexico Garden Club Member of the Year, 1978 Flower Arranger of the Year, 1979
New Mexico Horticulturist of the Year, and has had her arrangements pictured in
National Council of State Garden Clubs calendar publications.
Betty is a founder of the Albuquerque Daylily Society, serving as its President for four years, and was instrumental in the formation of the Santa Fe club. She was Chair of the 1983 Region 6 Meeting in Albuquerque. Betty served two years each as Region 6 Secretary and Regional Publicity Director. She has represented Region 6 on the AHS Board of Directors for six years. In addition, she has encouraged many to know and grow daylilies and has been generous in her contributions of time, knowledge, and materials to support this effort. Betty and her husband, Ned, have been active in the promotion of daylilies in beautifying the city of Albuquerque.
Is it any wonder Betty was awarded the Region 6 Service Award?
