At
the 1981 Convention of the American Hemerocallis Society in Chicago, Mrs. Royal
A. Ferris, Jr., better known as Bertie, received the Regional Service Award for
her many contributions to Region 6 (Texas and New Mexico).
Mrs. Ferris has served her club, state, Region, and the National Society with distinction. Her enthusiasm, loyalty and devotion to the highest standards of the American Hemerocallis Society has provided inspiration and leadership to her fellow members and prestige to all the offices she has held. She has been instrumental in encouraging young hybridizers in obtaining their goals. She is now serving on the American Hemerocallis Society Exhibition Committee and is a Regional Vice-President of the American Daffodil Society.
She has won many well-deserved honors connected with American Hemerocallis Society, the Daffodil Society and the National Council of State Garden Clubs.
The following is a partial list of some of her
accomplishments: President of the American Hemerocallis Society (1969), American Hemerocallis
Society Awards and Honors Judge, Master Judge of National Council, Accredited Judge of
the Daffodil Society, and an American Hemerocallis Society Director for twelve years. She received the
highest service award given by the American Hemerocallis Society, the Helen Field Fischer Award, in 1970.
She has served on the committees for revising the Judge's Handbook and the American Hemerocallis
Society's
by-laws.
Region 6 is very fortunate to have Bertie Ferris as their representative for she
has been a great asset to the Region as well as to the entire American Hemerocallis
Society.
