In 1986, a bank in Cleburne, Texas, invited
everyone interested in Iris to take part in an Iris Show. That Spring, ten
interested people met to organize the Johnson County Iris Society. Charter
Members were Mary & Pete Huggins, Tom & Vera Goodrum, Jim & Lottie
Ogles, and Wesley & Zelma Banks. In 1987, the group voted to include
daylilies and the name was changed to the Johnson County Iris and Daylily
Society. Our last Charter Member, Mary Huggins, passed away in June of 2022.
The club meets 12 months of the year at the J. N. Long Cultural Arts Complex in
Cleburne. Meetings are held in the cafeteria of the Complex, unless otherwise
noted in the club's monthly newsletter. Meetings begin at 10:00 a.m. except for
August and December, in which the meeings begin at 11:00 a.m. with a potluck
luncheon.
The club year runs from August until July. Each month a drawing is held for a free membership in the American Daylily Society for a member who is present at the meeting.
Yearly plant sales are held on the 2nd Saturday of September each year in the gym of the J. N. Long Complex.
