Myrtle
(Applegate) Hodges was born February 27, 1938, in Floyd County, Texas, the
daughter of Lewis "Buck" and Katie (Darr) Applegate. She was the
youngest of seven children. At a young age her family moved to Blum, Texas,
where she grew up and attended school. There she met the love of her life,
Donald Eugene Hodges. They were married on July 10, 1955, in Blum, where they
made their home and raised their children.
Myrtle enjoyed gardening, arts and crafts, sewing, fishing, cooking, and baking. She had a special interest in Irises and Daylilies. Many people knew Myrtle and her husband, Donald, when they had their commercial garden Hodges Iris Garden.
She was an active member of the Johnson County Iris and Daylily Society, in Cleburne, Texas.. She served the club as 1998-99 President, 1999 and 2008 Flower Show Chair, 2002 Program Chair, and 2003 Club Reporter.
