In response to an invitation from Pearl Howard, Martin McMillan, Region 6 RVP, and Mrs. McMillan
met with an enthusiastic group of Hemerocallis growers in the home of Mrs.
Howard, Sunday afternoon, October 12, 1969,, for the purpose of organizing a
Hemerocallis Society.
Pearl Howard had made the arrangements for the meeting, including newspaper
publicity, and had actually obtained signatures of most of the prospective
members, so instead of the necessity of attempting to "sell" the group
on the idea of organizing it was only necessary to set up a temporary
organization, get the names and addresses of those desiring to belong to the
society, and appoint a committee to draw up a set of By-Laws.
Charter members of the club were Faye Andrews,
Lela Couser, Mae Freeman, Louise Oliver, and Pearl and H. G. Howard.
Temporary officers selected to head this new group were: Mrs. H. G. Howard,
President; Mrs. E. B. Jeeter, Treasurer; and Mrs. Louise Oliver, Secretary.
Names of the members of this new organization were - Fay Andrews, Sunshine Bryant, Helen Campbell, Beatrice Copeland, Mae Freeman, Mr. & Mrs. H. G. Howard, Mr. &. Mrs. E. B. Jeeter, Fannie Miller, Louise Oliver, Given Shearer, and Wilhelmina Truell.
