Emily Grace (Jones) Everett was born May 28, 1921, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, the daughter of Elijah. B. & Grace (Jackson) Jones. She lived there and finished college with a B. S. degree at Northwestern State University. W. D. Everett and Emily were married in 1942 in Natchitoches. After they married, they moved to the Brazosport area in Texas in the early 1940s. They lived in Lake Jackson, Texas, until W. D. retired from Dow Chemical. In October 1989, they moved back to the old home place in Natchitoches. Emily died there December 11, 1990. Emily joined the Brazosport Daylily Society about 1965 and was very active in all of its activities. She was also active in the Methodist Church and her Hobby Club. Emily's love for daylilies went way back, as her mother grew many daylilies. Emily never saw an ugly daylily. When she moved, she took daylilies with her to add to those that were already growing at the old home place. She was also into promoting the daylily in Natchitoches. Her home and garden were always open for daylily friends. She was so proud of the daylily that was named for her by Inez Tarrant in 1982, Hemerocallis 'Emily Everett', and one also named for her mother by Inez in 1983, H. 'Grace Jackson Jones'. Her mother died in the spring of 1986 in Natchitoches. Emily was one of the nicest people you will ever meet and always spoke in a soft, sweet voice (even when scolding W. D.). Gardening, traveling, church activities, love of family and her fellowman, all fit together to make this a great lady. Her life was an example of sharing, helping, and reaching out to others. |
