The club was originally established as the Austin Hemerocallis Study Group. They hosted the third Region 6 Meeting, June 3-4, 1960. This Study Group was organized as the Austin Hemerocallis Society on May 26, 1961. The club has also hosted the Region 6 Meeting in 1966, 1972, 1976, 1981, 1986, 1992, 2001, 2010, & 2017.
In 2006, the club was renamed the Austin Daylily Society.
The club plants and maintains the daylily beds at Zilker Botanical Garden which are located near the front gate.
